High above the rocky cliffs of the West Penwith Peninsula coastline, nestled deep amongst the boulder–strewn granite hills and heather moors, you will find Porthmeor Cottages.

An area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by the National Trust and totally unspoilt, this part of Cornwall is truly wild, and Porthmeor cottages offers a rare opportunity to experience a genuine Cornish getaway.

Enjoy fabulous far reaching views to the sea and beautiful sunsets, for which this area is renowned. Access the coastal footpath through ancient farmland bringing you down to the horseshoe indentation of Porthmeor Cove, or journey along the coastal road and take in scenes you may recognize from the recent BBC adaptation, Poldark.

Steeped in history

Set in 100 acres of working farmland, Porthmeor Cottages and the land they occupy has been worked and lived on by the Berryman family since the 16th century. Amid this land is a fortified iron age settlement, the Porthmeor Settlement, with the remains of courtyard houses, roundhouses and even a fougou.

Something for everyone

Porthmeor Cottages offer an opportunity to experience Cornwall at its best and are ideally situated for west Cornwall’s art and culture as well as outdoor pursuits, beaches and locally sourced food.

Art lovers

The cottages are conveniently located 6 miles equidistant from St Ives – with its cobbled streets and numerous galleries including the Tate St Ives, as well as the associations with 20th century artists like Patrick Heron and Barbara Hepworth – and Penzance, where you can visit the Penlee Museum or, at low tide, take a stroll over to St Michael’s Mount.

Outdoor adventurers

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy walks along the wild South West coastline, cycling, horse riding and rock climbing on the majestic granite cliffs in the area.

Satisfy your appetite

Foodies can satiate their appetites with a meal at the renowned Gurnard’s Head Restaurant but a 10 minute walk away. Or take a vineyard tour and tasting at the Polgoon Vineyard and Orchard, just outside Penzance.

Famous farmstead

Literacy enthusiasts may be interested to know that Porthmeor Farm and its surroundings have good pedigree; Virginia Woolf once stayed in Porthmeor Farmhouse, DH Lawrence lived in Zennor and the farm and the surrounding area have been filmed for Rosamund Pilcher’s TV adaptations. More recently the BBC adaptation, Poldark was filmed just 6 miles along the coastline.

And relax…

If, after a week packed full of activities, you want to relax, you can spend time on the mile of golden sands on offer at Sennen Cove or catch a production at the Minack Theatre, where basking sharks and dolphins make regular appearances.

We are open all year round, so whether you yearn for a fun–filled, sun–filled Cornish adventure or would like to kick back with a glass of red by one of our warming log fires, we look forward to welcoming you soon.
